The Transforming Power of Time with God

Spending time in God’s Word is truly transformational.

"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
~Psalm 119:105

Spending time in God’s Word is truly transformational. Over the years, I’ve read daily devotions, Christian magazines, and social media posts that reference Scripture. While these can be encouraging, I’ve realized that there is no substitute for picking up my Bible and immersing myself in His Word.

Yes, I sometimes read the Bible on my phone or tablet, but there’s something special about holding a physical Bible in my hands. I love highlighting verses, underlining key passages, and jotting down notes in the margins. It becomes personal—alive with my prayers, reflections, and moments of revelation.

One of the most treasured possessions I have is my mother’s, grandmother’s, and grandfather’s Bibles. As I turn the worn pages, I see scriptures they underlined and words they circled. They didn’t annotate much, but their Bibles reveal something powerful—they read God’s Word. They sought wisdom, guidance, and truth, and their commitment inspires me to do the same.

Letting the Word Speak to You

I’ve discovered that no matter how many times I read a passage, there is always something new that speaks to me. I used to attempt reading the Bible in a year, but I found myself captivated by the depth of a single verse or chapter. Instead of rushing through, I wanted to truly understand. I’d pause, research, and meditate, only to realize I had gone off track from my reading plan—but right on track with what God was revealing to me.

That’s when I decided to take a different approach—to read the Bible at God’s pace. I no longer rush through chapters to check off a plan. Instead, I allow the Holy Spirit to lead me to the books and passages that speak directly to my season of life. I take my time, meditate on His Word, and let God guide my understanding.

Surrendering to His Timing

Through this journey, I’ve learned that when we surrender our ways to God, He reveals His perfect plan. We don’t have to strive to understand everything at once—He unfolds His truth in His timing.

So, I ask you today—what do you need to surrender? Are you willing to let God lead your time in His Word? When we let go of our expectations and allow Him to speak, we find that His Word truly becomes a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.

Let’s commit to studying His Word—not at our own pace, but at His.

Reflection Question:

How can you slow down and allow God to guide your time in His Word?

Blessings,

Glenda
