Often, we encounter crossroads that demand courage and faith. When I moved across the country leaving behind everything familiar, I felt that mix of excitement and terror that comes with new beginnings. Whether starting a new job, moving to a new city, or embarking on a fresh chapter of life, these moments test our resolve while offering incredible potential for growth.
Embracing Change
The morning I packed my car to leave for my new home, I stood in my empty apartment and whispered Jeremiah 29:11 to myself: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." This promise carried me through those first uncertain weeks when everything felt foreign and uncomfortable. Which scripture has encouraged you? If you don't have one, then I encourage you to find one and begin meditating on it during your transition season.
I've learned that embracing change isn't about having all the answers—it's about trusting the journey and leaning into scripture even when the destination isn't fully clear.
Letting Go of the Past
My journal became my confidant during this transition. On its pages, I processed the grief of leaving and the excitement of arriving. I wrote about the relationships, habits, and even limiting beliefs I needed to release. Do you journal?
Philippians 3:13-14 became my mantra: "Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
When memories of past disappointments threatened to hold me back, I reminded myself that my rear-view mirror is smaller than my windshield for a reason.
Discovering Identity and Purpose
In this new season, I've rediscovered parts of myself that had been dormant. TheCommunity Garden I joined introduced me to neighbors who have become dear friends. The volunteer work at the local shelter revealed strengths I hadn't recognized in myself. Is there a community or a place where you could serve that would help strengthen you in this season?
Proverbs 31:25 has taken on new meaning for me: “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come." Each day, I'm learning to face the future with confidence, not because I have everything figured out, but because I know Who holds my tomorrow.
What new beginning are you facing today? Remember, your story isn't finished yet—it's just turning to a beautiful new chapter.
